Cars are using less gasoline and newer cars will use even less or NO gasoline. And our fixed pennies per gallon tax system does nothing to compensate.

We need to adjust the way we fund our roads, but the mantra of “No new taxes” stops legislation from finding common sense answers.
High priced electric cars that will pay no gasoline taxes must have appropriate use taxes applied on registration. We can index the state gasoline tax to a percentage, which will allow for adjusting revenues without the legislative battles over fixed pennies taxation.
